I know what you mean with the patchy beard!! It sucks! I can't grow hair on the upper-lip/tuft region. I will never experience what it is like to have a magnificent beard....
You just need to grow what beard you can, shave it off but KEEP THE HAIR, then regrow the beard, then use the hair from the first time to fill in the patches. No one will be the wiser! (...but you will know, in your shame)
